What size do I need?

My straps a 9T strap, but rather long (thought it better long for off road recovery)
thought, if I get a shackle I can double it up, to somthing more suitable for the road do I need a 10T shackle for this? and is it a bow shackle I need or something different?

straps have an f.o.s of 7:1

shackles have an f.o.s of 5:1

you will deffo need a bow shackle as it is more suited to spread load in the shackle without constricting the strap.

i'd use a 8 1/2 tonne shackle tbh (a Crosby one with a screw pin) the 10 tonne will be physically too big for your needs.

Reet, now Ive got the size sorted, anyone got any suggestions of where to get them at decent prices.
not keen on ebay, too many forged items, im not taking a chance on these. anywhere that sells them for "offroading" seems to add a good % because of the tag.

the onesi got from ebay including my strop are perfect and i have done a lot of towing with them and still good as ever.

Lifting straps have this safety rating. Towing starps may not-in my experience dont. Ive snapped 4tone towing straps.

i only know about lifting gear tbh, if you put a shock load on any sling it will break.

towing is classed as a lifting operation did you know that?

If it's for road towing just get a 5tonne towing strap and a pair of 3.5t bow shackles.

Agreed.

I use bow shackles everyday and ive seen them tested. If you break a 3.5t one doing anything remotely landrover rated then id be seriously surprised.

The strap on the other hand. All it takes is a weak bit of sewing and the forces involved will exploit it! :(

This is one supplier that work uses.

The tow straps from damar have the break limit on them as the rating. I use the 14t ones. There lifting straps have 7:1 rate
