Hi all

Couple of questions in response to encouragement on here to spanner myself. Firstly, I have downloaded RAVE for my car, a 99 4.0 Thor V8 and it is very useful. however, is there more of a novice service guide I can use? For example I want to carry out a full service inc changing the fuel filter etc but RAVE has basic diagrams without instruction as to where the diagrams relate to. I want to change the coolant temp sensor also and again rave has diagrams but the pics dont match what I have under the bonnet.

Second one - in rave it says 'up to my99' - how do I know if this includes my car? Mine is a 99 but with Thor so does that mean it is a later spec or am I just being pedantic?

Any help greatly appreciated

PS I want to change the sensor as I hope it might cure a cold start problem I have.

The later version of RAVE for 2000 on may be better, it certainly has fewer errors.
I've always found RAVE shows what you need if you can locate the correct section.
If you cannot recognise an oil filter without a picture, you might do well to find someone to help you the first time.
Don't forget the oil and filter in the auto box and the oil in the transfer box and differentials, you should also grease the propshaft UJ's.

Look in RAVE under Exhaust and Manifold System. Page 13 Inlet Gasket. you'll see the Temp sensor shown (6) at the front of the inlet manifold

Also do the Gearbox oil and filter in your service !!

Thanks all

I have serviced cars before so I know my way around an oil filter, I am aware that when you buy a service kit it comes with fuel filter so thought I should know how to do it properly.

I will have a look at the engine this week to see if the diagram matches what I have

Cheers

Yes I think that's it. Not sure I want to start undoing all of it to get at it I'll download rave 2000 and speak to my Indy who said he thinks it is 3 hours work!

I would stay clear of that Indy then if has told you it's 3 hours work, it's half hour at the most, take tension off belt, remove 2 10 mm bolts from black plastic cover on the AC comp, then remove the 4 bolts from the top or the AC comp, once loose lift comp out of way then you can get to temp sensor, the bolts for the AC comp are 10mm too.
Hope this helps
Paul.
