Hello all , hope your all well

It time for a service on my 110 , 98 , TD5 ..

Can you please recommend a engine oil ? , weight and brand , cost ...

Can anyone give any advice on filters , the brit part ones seem very cheap, are they not a good option ?? I have already got my diff oil , transfer box and gear box oil .. I might aswel do it all together ..

cheers guys .

My engine oil of choice is Fuchs titan truck 15/30,[ 200tdi ] mainly because it's what my local supplier stocks. How long to do a service ? Change all oils, filters and grease shafts ect. Depend if all plugs come out ok [ diff ones can be sods, more so if the have had a thump ] I don't rush and take a day or spread it over two.I think a 5/30 is recommended for TD5.

2 Days! Pay me by the hour and I'll do it in one!

Get some PTFE tape on the diff plugs,

I am no spring chicken and my time is my time, just saying when doing it yourself take as little or as much time you need to do the job correctly.

little update

So today I did , engine oil, air filter , both oil filters , both diff's , transfer box ... run out of time to do the gear box , tho the drain plug on the gear box would not move at all , it was solid ... any tips ..

Will have a go at it latter in the week now ....

Did the fill plug move ?

the fill plug moved , that was ok .. just the drain plug , it was solid ... Changed my plans for tomorrow , so will give it another go in the morning ...

2 days to change all the fluids? 2 hours more like!
It depends what level of service you are doing. I agree oil and filters are an hours work, little longer to do diffs and gearboxes, but if you are at a service level where you need to replace the brake fluid (I hate bleeding brakes) coolant etc that will take longer. DIY takes longer to check wheel bearings and brakes than on a ramp as you need to jack each corner individually, and that is if all you are doing is checking, if you strip and repack wheel bearings with with grease that is more time. I could easily spend 2 days just servicing everything on mine, and have done on a couple of occasions before long solo trips to Morocco, but that was a very thorough service where everything was checked. Just a basic 5-6k oil and filter change is very quick.

as an aside if you are doing a service don't forget the little often over looked things like breaking out the grease gun and doing propshafts and steering components.

Yeah , im just waiting for a new grease gun for just that ..

Got everything else done , gearbox, transfer , diffs , and engine .. the drain plug for the gearbox was a bit stubborn ..
