Just went to my local car part dealer to price up the service items for the range, does this price look right to you guys?

The 4 filters, spark plugs and oil - £250

That's from A1 motor stores
 
i got my filters, spark plugs, and oil from gsf for £43 for my 3.9 efi disco 2
So i reckon they are ripping you off at that price

Maybe about right....

The L322 drinks about 8.5-9 litres of oil - also Island 4x4 do a service kit of Filters (Oil, Air, Pollen), Plugs and a sump washer for £45 ish....

So if you were to use a decent Oil - that'll set you back nearly £70....if you're doing the Gearbox - she drinks 10 litres for that plus a filter and at around £8 a litre - thats another £80, replacing the coolant is 14 litres at 50/50 so could be close to £25 for coolant....

So lets see

Service Kit - £45
Eng Oil - £70
Box Oil - £80
Coolant - £25

So thats £220 before you add the G'box filter, oil flush, and any other sundries like gloves, degreasers etc etc....
 
So that's not to far off then, to be honest it doesn't need a service for another 14k according to the clock and book but it's drinking a bit of fuel so am thinking maybe I should do it. The car has 137k on the clock. Do I have to flush the engine oil or just drain and refil?

Also should I do the gearbox at the same time or not?

And is this an easy DIY job?
 
Get the oil Warm - not hot - and it will flow a lot easier....it does come out sideways btw so be prepared for that as the sump plug is on a vertical face...

Flushing not strictly necessary, and some prefer not to as it can remain in the system and thin the new oild if you don't get all the flush out....

it's all DIY'able, the Gearbox oil and filter needs to be done carefully to ensure you get the filter on the right way round ....

Done the gearbox on mine, worried at first to take the plunge but decided to do it. Was pretty straight forward except once I had drained the oil and changed the filter and gasket and once all was back together just as I went to fill the box back up with new oil I then found out the filler plug was stuck tight !!!!

Took 3 hours of hammering, heating and chisseling to get the mangled plug out !!

Nearly left my car stranded unable to move without oil :S

So a top tip there
Remember to check your filler plug Is loose before draining old fluid.

make sure you do the spark plugs up nice and tight, they have a habit of undoing themselves, you do get a clue, as it sounds like the cam followers are knocking. and the spark plugs are about 70 quid for a good set.
