I certainly would not give a £50 tip at those prices , I took the wifes 16 year old Freelander for the MOT today my son in law and me had already given it a full service which included rear diff top up IRD top up gear box top up back brakes adjusted so hand brake was fine has it had new cables last year, engine oil change and new filtter air filter new cabin filter and so on , and the dam thing went and passed first time I was hoping she would have had a later freelander but she only goes work and back, a total of just over 2000 miles a year as said it is 16 years old a 1800 petrol and she loves it mind you so do I now we do not have to do any more , the mot man did say though that it could do with a new stone guard on the front off side ,the one that goes behind the disk . and the MOT cost £30 , but when I took mine last month for it mot at the main steelers it only cost me £29.99. and no tip

....and did they use a whole tin of brake cleaner on one car? Of course not.

Off topic I know but I have a lease car (VW Passat) as my daily driver as I do 50k+ miles a year with my job. The lease is the lease only, but they manage all servicing and tyres etc. and pass the costs through. You would think a national lease company like Interactive Fleet Management would get good deals with the likes of KwikFit etc. bacause of their spend. Got the bill a month ago for winter tyres fitted in December. Figures from memory but £819 for 4x tyres which are £180 each on their website fully fitted. £24 for valves and disposal, £40 tyre storage. No tyres were disposed of and I doubt any valves were replaced as they are also the tyre pressure sensor and are i.r.o. £120 each. Suffice to say the bill is still unpaid awaiting a suitable credit note. The response from the lease company is that they deal with KwikFit lease dept, not retail, so their prices do not apply...............?

Moral of the story - unless you know you can trust them agree all costs in advance and make it clear you wont pay for anything that's not agreed.

I am sorry but I think you have been had. But at least they forgot to charge you for the 45 cubic feet of compressed air they used in carrying out the service....
