I would not advocate a full flush of the gearbox....

Gearbox Fluid is a very good detergent....currently inside the box hidden in harmless nooks and crannies is a build up of debris....harmlessly sitting out of the way do no bother!

When you only change the sump contents during a 'normal' fluid change, you change about 65% or so of the original fluid, the rest sits in the Torque Converter.

You then refill with clean fluid - diluting the remaining 35% or so.

This dilution of the clean fluid, slows down the detergent effect.

NOW....

If you mega flush and take all the old fluid out and replace with new, it will start to strip clean the gearbox, and pull all that accumulated debris into the oil and box, which can cause grief.

It is known as New Fluid Syndrome (or something similar)....

Some get away with it, and some have reported it has trashed the box requiring a rebuild due to contamination!

I would do as the others have suggested, drain and replace filter and fluid...then drain the fluid a few hundred miles later and replace....

The dilution will disturb some of the harmless crud into the oil, but the second flush will start clearing this out before it has a chance to wreck everything!

Also on the M62 it doesn't have an oil breather as such....it uses a PCV valve that maintains a slight vacuum in the sump and draws oil vapours through a cyclonic separator for condensing back into oil and drains into the sump again!

The PCV valve diaphragm splits and can cause idle issues, a reduction in MPG and cause the MIL/CEL light to illuminate due to fuel trim issues!

I guess to stay on the safe side, draining and replacing once would be a good call and leaving it period or for considerably longer e.g 1,000 mile to let the components become acquainted with the new oil?

off topic but tonight while free wheeling at approx 30 mph, revs dropped below 1k, can this happen at this speed? If picks back up as soon as I hit the pedal.

sorry for the delayed response
the breather filter is located in the rocker cover
its a few years since I did one but it is an easy fit(I managed it)
costs about £15 not part of service schedule but it swells up leading to massive oil loss
there must be a few posts on here about
if not try youtube

Didn't think the M62 used a breather as it has a PCV valve and a cyclonic oil separator!

The M57 TD6 Diesel has a breather fitted under the rocker cover mind!

change all my oils and filters every year :)

well,
gearbox oil
gearbox filter
cabin filter
engine oil
engine oil filter
fuel filter

air filter is a k&n, so just gets a clean
crankcase filter upgraded to bmw cyclone so no worries there

Yep !
Better safe than sorry

Think mine is showing signs of a worn TQ so keeping the oil clean from bits seems to be helping
I'm budgeting for a new TQ very soon lol

We changed the transfer case and diff oils on mine a few weeks ago.

Diff oils came out absolutely spotless. Transfer case dropped about 200ml out as opposed to the 1.5L it should be holding!

I spoke to a specialist about it, and he reckons 1 in 3 are coming in with the same amount coming out. He's convinced they're not being filled correctly at the factory, as there are no leaks either.
Luckily, they're only splash lubricated, (the 1.5L is to compensate for the extreme operating angles it's capable of) hence them getting away with it.
