I posted this by accident in the engines forum first. Sorry..

My freelander TD4 is due its 60K service soon. Does anybody know how much a dealer charges on average? I have approved warranty so i was thinking it best to have it done at a dealer in case they find any faults?

Any advice appreciated.

Mine had 36K service last year at a main stealer (just before I bought it). It came in at £492 according to the bill! :eek:

My TD4 went in for its 36000 miler last week, bill due any minute, will let you know. My last dealer service for my Td4 was £320 for the 60,000 mile service last year. So gives you an idea.
 
Ask your main dealer about an Allegiance card. You pay £25 for it, then get this refunded on your next service with them. This card gives discounts on LR’s 3 years plus old on servicing and parts. Book says service parts and tyres etc. I get 10% off every part I buy there regardless of it being a service part or not. Card is for one car only.
 
Thanks for the info guys. I know independants charge more realistic prices, i will phone the dealer tomorrow for a price and let you know. At least i know what to expect now. Nationwide autocentres quote £219 for a "major" service just not sure all fluids etc will be changed as per a 60K service by a dealer.
 
Would be good if you could prise out of them all the service costs for your td4. Will help others know the costs in the future.

On the v6 you devide the mileage by 100 to get the service costs...

Find a land rover specialist to do the work for you,
Land Rover and other 4x4 Servicing & Repairs

Probably do a better job than Landrover dealer and will be cheaper.

When I was speaking to a mechanic (can you call them that these days) from one of my local dealers he was saying they are under lots of pressure to get more trade from you. For instance, if your pads are 4 to 5 mm they will say they are very low (2-3mm) and need changing with the hope that you wont see them. They do however have a parts bin with old parts in from various models that they can show you and pretend that they came from your vehicle!!!

My service bills always come out at about £175 mark. This is for oil change and all the filters as appropriate (air, oil, fuel, pollen, crankcase) and a complete inspection of MOT items. Anything else that is found to need replacing is extra.

I have found that that is pretty competitive with other independents.
 
had a 60k service on my td4 last august at HALLAM BROS of hayfield derbyshire. gave it a very good going over as it was new to them ( been to them b4 with j*p 4wd ). £260

be really wary of this. I am sure they are not all the same, but chances are, your freelander will be serviced as a normal 2wd car. This means diff oil, IRD oil etc probably won't be checked etc.

my advice would be to find a good independent. generally cheaper and often much better service carried out and much better customer service.

I had a 72k service carried out by my local independent, and also had the crankcase breather filter and valve, and turbo depressurisation filters changed at the same time, for £383.73 inc. VAT

where abouts are you phizza ? praps someone nearby can recommend and independent. (As long as the garage is VAT registered, and they can demonstrate they used OEM parts, which should be on the invoice, the warranty shouldn't be affected)

I cant believe how much you people are paying to service your cars. The parts are dirt cheap and its not rocket science to change filters etc. This is not a dig at anyone by the way :)
 
Had our TD4 '06 MOT'd and full 48k service last week.
Supplied full synth engine oil and LR spec filters to garage with LR check sheet and corrosion check sheet (from Rave, gave them a disc last year- they were very grateful and even interested).
Stamp in service book and completed check sheets for file - Under £200 all in with MOT.
Its a Local family run garage who serviced/MOT's our Disco and Defender previously.
Find a garage you can trust, help them out with specific parts you want and stick with them - I find they appreciate your loyalty.
(They really did do the wheel swaps and brake checks as specified! I'll be going back again next year at MOT time)

This is a very valid point, however I think maybe people pay for a service due to not having time and also because you get a service stamp in the log-book that is essential if selling the car.
 
just a question of time really. to do it myself means at least half a day where I'm not earning, plus all the distractions of trying to do it on my drive.

or I can put it into my local independant, who'll give me a courtesy car at no cost, let me drop off at 8 and pick up at 5.30, so I can still do a days work.

plus it's tax deductable, and I can claim the VAT back:D:D

Learn to do it your self, very easy, all filters and fluids using the best available just cost me £75.
That included the rear diff, gear box, transfer box etc, very enjoyable and I know it is done right. :D

Freelander 2 cheeper than Freelander 1 it would assume!
