Anyone tried this or am I out my tree? Steering wheel on my Hi Cap (1995 300tdi) is pretty worn down and I'd like to swap in a Series wheel.

Now, I haven't ordered the Series wheel or taken off the Defender wheel. I know it's a "large column diameter B type 48 spline" but I can't find like information on the Series Wheel. Anyone know?

Thanks!

Series 3 is 48 spline. Pretty sure yours should be 36 spline unless someone swapped the column out.

Highly likely, it's new to me but a nut & bolt rebuild on a galvanised Richards chassis. Has a series 2a fuel collar and cap. Have just removed the steps and there were 4 different styles of bolt nyloc'd in place so I imagine it's kind of a bitser.

You look a bit young for driving a Land Rover.

Most are to be fair. Mines an early 90, with bits bolted on from Defender, Freelander, Discovery, Isuzu, Ford and a BMW horn 👀

Hi, don’t know if this will help you much but here’s some info. My 98 90 had the same wheel as yours and was pretty done. I changed it to the older 4 spoke (36 spline) style wheel. To do so I had to change the steering column to get the wheel to fit. Think the old 4 spoke looks ok. It was only the column I had to change. The one I got came from a 80’s era 90(wheel and column) fitted straight in no probs. The joint below the column fitted as the column and splines on the joint were the same. All bolt holes etc all matched up despite the big difference in years. Ignition went straight on. Total match, I was fair amazed how it was the same. Heres a photo, you might like it, series 3 wheel is cool too but this set up will work. See how you go.

Right! That's a great shout, finding wheel + steering column and swapping the lot over isn't something I'd thought of but definitely opens up the project. Am trying to get a solid material wheel as the current c. 1995 wheel is just too flappy and disconnected feeling as the rubber's coming off the frame. Have also considered stripping the current wheel and rewrapping it. Can't see any really solid, utilitarian aftermarket wheels which is a missed opportunity.

p.s oh lord if only my seat boxes looked like yours. Aluminium moths have been at mine on the driver's side floor flange. Going to strip the tatty lining off and check if I can get away with joining on a new panel or if I'm going to have to swap the whole seatbox (probably about £300+ part if I get one off ebay) to get it up to standard.

Ok. I did mine when it was getting rebuilt so it was easy to fit. Even doing it to yours wouldn’t be the worst job in the world. Just a bit of a dig to get to it but the actual column out- new one in was no time at all and worth doing. I much prefer the old style wheel. I managed to find a column and a wheel from a lad in Cornwall. Again if it helps I did not need to change any of the other parts. Steering lock. Indicator stalk, light stalks all fitted the older column. Old column mount bolts/ bracket again fitted straight on. I could look out a coupla photos if it would be any help to you if your doing yours. Hope this helps bro.

I might have an older style column in the box of spares left over from my rebuild, I certainly have the later style. I also have the earlier column in mine as prefer the larger 4 spoke wheel fitted the the early 90/110. I can have a check if you are interested. Do not think I have a wheel though.
