hey all, i've been recently having a bearing noise out of my gearbox, seems i pushed her a bit far tonight, lots of clunking and crunching as my box ate itself earlier, then when my bro towed me home, even in neutral she chewed and grinded some more, anyway, my question is- where is the best place to get a re con box? dont wanna mess about, or is reconditioning the box do-able for a semi-novice?
many thanks

it is doable but not a 5 minute job,as mainshaft has to have 2nd and 3rd gear end float set but can be done with no special tools except snapring pliers and fairly big circlip pliers external and internal

thanks for the reply, any idea of the cost of the parts to do a full recon? where could i price up a reconditioned one? cheers, also i noticed you had said in another thread that you recondition boxes, how much you charge? where you at? thanks again

depends if transfer box ,gear box or both, and how bad yours is ,£450 complete ,£250 just gear box ,they mostly need nearly all parts replacing now

From my experience of rebuilding my complete gearbox, I would go and buy a reconditioned unit. Rebuilding them is a complete pain in the ass.

cheers for that, i'm hoping to get hold of one, any idea the best or cheapest place to source one? cheers

i think there easy depends on your ability, but i am useless with computer, what do you need just gear box or both

they are not complex to rebuild but just a lot of hassle. For example getting the main shaft into the casing and the layshaft into its bearings.
