hi please could anyone help?
I have a 1969 series 2A on a galvanised chasis. I have blown the original 2.25 diesel engine up
I have now decided to convert after numerous people telling me to go to a 200 n/a engine!
I have been told to use a LT77 Defender gear box too.....the problem i am having is it all aligning up.
1st Problem: The engine mount (the long one) doesnt fit properly. Its too close to the bottom of the pump. I have sorted this out by using 1 rubber mount and cutting another in half which solved the problem at first. I then tried to fit the defender LT77 gear box to the engine. I went on the internet and got told to get some coversion brackets off ebay so i bought them and it still isnt right. The handbrake bracket on the gear box fouls the bracket on the chasis. So....i phoned a friend! He has told me the engine is too far back and needs to be brought forward. How do i do this?? and has anyone ever done this conversion??
I have been told i can only use a series 2A gear box from some people and i can use the defenderbox from others. PLEASE can anyone help me to get round these problems?? Pictures would really help or if you could ring me 07823887632. Kind regards Jason.

Nope nobodies ever done it before :D:p

To be clear you're fitting a 200tdi without the turbo? Often called a 200Di (which may help while searching....talking of which.....)

Any Series 2/3 box will fit nicely and yep, trying to squeeze a LT77 in is a royal PITA.

Why bother researching the hundreds of conversion threads on the exact same subject when you can just throw it all together and hope it works?

Keep the series box and fit an overdrive if you need a 5th gear, saves an awful amount of work.
