Hello all.

I've recently inherited my dad's series I, and I am on a mission to restore it to its former glory. However, I currently have very little mechanical knowledge! (I am, however, hell-bent on learning) I do have a long-suffering friend who is a mechanic, but I thought I would start this thread, and keep it ongoing throughout my restoration, so I can both pick the brains of all you people, and keep you all updated on the progress from time to time....

Currently, the landy is in storage, as I had to move it pdq before it was scrapped (!) by my mum who wanted it off the driveway. However, I have just managed to secure an area to work on it and store it, so I will shortly be moving it there so the epic can begin in earnest!

Which brings me to my first question. When I moved the landy off the driveway (where it had been sitting for over 10 years) it was discovered, predictably, that the tyres were in need of replacement. We hoiked it onto the back of the transporter regardless, using a winch, but it was a major mission, and I want to replace the tyres before moving it again. What tyres should I buy, and where from?

I look forward to your wisdom.

Claire

Go for a second hand cheap set of rims n tyres just to keep it rolling whilst you work on it. You can always flog them when you find what you want wheel n tyre wise towards the end of the project.

The size of the original tyres were a choice of 6.00" x 16", 6.50" x 16" or 7.00" x 16" I'm not sure where the best place to go shopping for tyres is but at least now you know what sort of size to look for! If you need any other part numbers etc.. then I have a parts catalogue here for 86,88,107 and 109 vehicles dated 1954 - 57. I know Craddocks are quite good suppliers of series 1 parts.

Best of luck.

Brilliant, cheers guys..I've managed to get a local stockist of Kingpin...they turn out to be on the same industrial estate that I work on, which is handy!..

I'll acquire some and let you know what they're like...don't even know how much they cost yet, I hope I'm not in for a nasty surprise...

Isn't it a bit like putting the cart before the horse by buying tyres before the restoration. Spend the money on essential parts, the vehicle could spend another ten years on axle stands before you need any tyres.

Dunno if these will fit, dunno if your any where near Bromsgrove. but it could be a cheap alternative to new ones to get you a rolling chassis.
