Hi, Does anyone know if there is a right or wrong way to put in the half shaft bearings into the swivel housing. Just rebuilding mine and could only order a Britpart bearing and it looks different on one side with a sort of plastic retaining ring. Pics attached of how I put it in.
Very suspicious of this bearing - rollers have already fallen out and needed to be put back in!!

For info heated the swivel to around 160 in new oven and with railco and other race in the freezer went in OK

Thanks in Advance

Rollers dropping out sounds iffy but I guess the bearing isn't complete until assembly as the inner race is on the halfshaft.

As far as I remember mine were symmetrical

Thanks I think they are too, not sure what the plastic ring is for!

New and Old, Old made by FAG and 100% better not sure whether to attempt to fit the new plastic ones or not! Paddock said no reported problems!

Is there any identifying numbers on your original?
Paperwork I have gives 1/LLRJ 34 9 but cannot find that on beraing manufacturers websites.

I had to fit Britpart bearings to mine. Didn't want to but that was all I could find. Not done many miles but they were done over 3 years ago and they have been fine.

Having just been doing this job myself, I'd like add, that if you end up with a britpart halfshaft bearing then make sure you also get a britpart retaining collar (the bit that holds the inner bearing ring in place on the halfshaft) I didn't, put it all together and now find that the collar (bearmach) is a bigger diameter and won't go through the outer race in the swivel. Hoping to get a britpart collar tomorrow and find it's the right size. The Other side (all beatbach) went together a treat. Oh well, it's my first britpart screw up!!

i know this thread is from march, but i fitted mine with the retaining collar outwards (facing the axle tube) i figured the swivel housing would stop them on the inside, plastic ring stop them on the outside. maybe that was the source of your slipping bearings ?

Just did mine this weekend, put the bearings in with the manufactures details facing out, at the end of the day its a roller bearing, shouldn't really mind which way as it sees no side loads.

I just got a set of RHP NOS bearings for mine and they also have the ring on one side, nothing in the manual about what way round and I don't suppose it matters but I am just checking before knocking them into the swivels!
I had the bronze caged ones before but one of them was gubbed and I thought I am doing one may as well do both.
