Hi Everyone, Looking to re-chassis my 2a 88, Due to availability and future proofing may want to use a galvanised S3 chassis. I understand that the front brake pipe mounts are different, it appears that the upper handbrake mounts are similar on the 2a to 3 (mine is a late 2a) Question is - are the lower pivots the same (see photo) I am guessing they must be could someone confirm that. Also anything else I have not thought about??? Thanks in advance

Thanks Steve many thanks. Just need to try and source a chassis. Plan A seems not to be available now. Cheers

I would proceed with caution, what you may create is "an S2A on an S3 chassis" and that will alaways lead to problems. it will never be straitforward to order a part that relates to the chassis as each time will have to be checked to see whether the S2A or S3 part is needed. A vehicle on teh "wrong" chassis always raises questions and the first assumption is that some fraud or mis-representation is going on. This means you must meticulously document your reasons and what you did to rebuff this every time it comes up. A while back on here a person posted an S2A that had an S3 chassis and asked our advice. We said "avoid". They dug further and it turned out to be an S3 that has had its identify concealed and was probably stolen. The seller gave a story about a chassis swap but this came apart under detailed examination and they had no documents to prove tracability.. That vehicle became almost worthless. You risk creating something that will cause you endless trouble. The general rule is that "like for like" replacements are OK as there is no change and therefore no assessment and the description / identity of the vehicle are not changed. One unintended consequence is that a later chassis - one of a design not made before a certain date, can shift a vehicle into a later class for emissions or safety regualtions, its not a battle you want to have to fight. It may only be a few years, but a lot of regulations changed in the 1980s.

series 2a chassis after suffix d had the same chassis as series 3 (nrc4642)at the time if that chassis was supplied to an earlier 2a parts 552746 hand brake relay shaft and ghf223 nut were to be supplied, later 2a had all synchro g/boxes with direct slave to bell housing so no issue with fitting a s3 box as there was with earlier chassis
