I have been offered 195 80 15 tyres for my 200tdi series 3 are there any major disadvantages to using this size? I currently have 7.50 16 on,to be used for off road or in the snow the 195 would be used for good weather on the road.

cheers

The 195 80 15 tyres will be on 15" rims so to make it clear I will have 2 sets of wheels
First set will be 7.50 16" (16"rims) currently on landy, other set will be 195 80 15" (15" rims

disadvantages.. well, they'll be smaller, so gearing, speedo, height and all that change.

depends if you care.

750's to 195/80's will lower your gearing by 14% which with a 200tdi fitted is probably the opposite of what you want for road use.

Put another way......if you travel at comfortable engine revs at 60mph with the 750's on with the new tyres that will be reduced to 51.5 mph.....

Or 55 is reduced to 47.3.

Fuel consumption will rise by a similar amount. They'll also lower your Landy by 2'' (4'' difference in diameter) and frankly look a little stupid
