      hi
help
landy has been stood without starting for 12 monthsput new plugs leads points condenser on wouldnt start.eventually got it running but as soon as you try to rev it it dies.new fuel pump new carb still refuses to run for no longer than 30 secs.fitter reckons it needed new gasket on inlet manifold then he thought the head was cracked told him to stop been silly anyone got any ideas
ta jim

Sounds like rust in your tank. Have you tried running a clean gravity fed fuel supply direct to the carb. Also try new HT Coil.

Hi - my SIII is a diesel, so I'm not sure what the carby is like on a petrol one, but I'd check the float bowl and the needle valve.

Condenser is also cheap to change to eliminate.

Good luck

Does sound like fuel starvation to me. Rust in the tank as was already suggested junk in the glass bowl / sediment filter. Ilf fit one of those cheap inline filters about 2 quid and see if it was dry when the engine dies. which I reckon it will be. If so, there is n't a lot it can be really - for insufficient fuel suspect fuel pump, low fuel level, junk in the lines etc

It is cheap to change a fuel pump, so I'd try gravity feed first , then sucking up clean fuel from a can using your fuel pump then use the tank. The inline filter will help you out in diagnostics. make sure you don't fit it so its higher than the carb

stale old petrol will burn just fine,,, unless its half way to being varnish.
I doubt you're running e90.. that stuff effs up carbs occasionally.

i'd say 7 out of the 10 or so times i've had a car that would start and not run for long.. some water had gotten in the tank.

have yer got a flame tap fitted? they have a small vent hole on the top and if that is blocked it will cause similar problems, in that it will start but not rev

deffinatly sounds to me like it could well be the fule lines are full of crap- try and disconect and blow through with compressed air- could also be condensation in the tank if it was left standing with an emptyish fule tank then that could be giving you problems- also check tank breathers, returns etc for crud inside pipes.

landy refuses to run, first job check the fuel line between the tank and lift pump, should be a one piece pipe, secondly remove pipe from lift pump end and blow back in to the tank.no/3 remove pipe feeding carb from lift pump then crank engine over on the key and see wot happens, you should get a good flow of fuel thru, rule no/1 start at the supply end first and not at the recieving end the eliminates fuel supply to pump and carb, try that for starters.

I'd pull the pipe off the carb and operate the hand lever on the fuel pump. If the fuel is not coming out nicely I'd suspect the main jet has blocked up in the carb. I had a problem with a reconditioned zenith carb where the needle valve was not working properly so the float chamber was overflowing into the inlet manifold causing flooding.

Hi, I missed this post anyway.. No tbeing bigheaded, I suspected it would be the dizzy too.. My s3 was just the same after attempting to start it whilst sat in he garage on stands for 12 months..

Glad you fixed it..
