hi guys, posted a couple of pics of an 82 lwb series 3 I'm restoring, I'm not a purist and planning to paint in my own colour scheme. I am seriously considering a 300 tdi conversion (quoted £750 to supply & fit). However it will be quite a "bitsa" if I do and just looking for a bit of advice/steer if it's the right thing to do. Currently it's a 2.25 petrol, it's not my daily drive so it's not about economy. I do want to tow my ifor Williams braked trailer with one horse (total weight 1400kgs) to local shows (within 30 mile radius). There are some hills but I'm in Manchester so road network is not seriously hilly, any thoughts or alternatives to increase pulling power? Many thanks

rover v8 :D

from what I understand economy is about the same as the 2.25 petrol and if they do crack down on diesels, banning them from city centres etc, you will be in the clear

If you cant do it yourself £750 fitted seems a good price ,personally i wouldnt worry about keeping the original engine as a tdi will make it more usable for you and worth more to the right buyer if you ever sell

Thanks guys, the petrol engine I have is fine, don't think I would convert to another petrol unless it's a V8 with lpg. Fuel consumption isn't an issue as it won't be a daily. Just swaying between the TDI for pulling power or a Turner Stage 2 to keep it relatively original
