Hi all,help help help!!!, last weekend engine would not tick over but would run if u gave throttle, then fine all week tick over perfect, used her yesterday same as before, no tick over and backfiring when over run( foot off throttle when moving) sounds like it's missing but not baldly , adjustment on carb makes no difference, electronic distributor fitted a while ago and it is now buzzing when engine has stalled, any help GREATLY appreciatedforgot to mention , checked plugs and were sooty, so cleaned but no difference

Plugs are sooty usually means running rich, would check carb again, clean jets, check air flow etc

Is it worse/better when engine warmed up?

Sounds like the symptoms I got when the mechanical advance weights were sticking in my dissy. They'd get stuck in the advanced position and I'd set the timing like that then they'd free off an be way too retarded....repeat process at differing degrees of frustrating random settings until penny drops.

Stripping down and regreasing the distributor is probably a worthwhile exercise just remember how it all goes back together!

Thank you both for replies, just put carb back on after stripping down, ran perfectly , also now adjustable on carb, gonna warm her up even more now and see if makes a difference
