Just refitted the cylinder to my S3 2 1/4 petrol , I took it off to fit a new valve rocker bar , on start up its absolutely
****ing oil out the back of the head and oil pressure is low ( light is on ) , anybody got any ideas what I have done this time ?

As above^^^^^^ guessing the gasket is incorrectly fitted.

Possibly combined with not getting the oil feed holes for the rocker gear aligned with the holes in the bushes.
 
So the gasket is the right way around , I arranged the rocker gear as per the very sketchy diagram in the Haynes manual but it is terrible , I agree the likely cause is that the oil holes are misaligned , anyone got a good quality diagram for a 2 1/4 petrol >

Did you check that the banjo is tight, and has 2 washers, one either side of the banjo.

The alignment of the oil holes should be obvious, if the holes don't line up, it is wrong.

Well the alignment is massively impacted by where the spacer washers go and by how many you use , so far I have seen three different versions of that .Have you ever done this job and if so did you use a diagram .

Done it many times. I probably looked at a diagram at the beginning, but I don't really remember that much about 35 years ago.

If I disassemble an assembly, I normally lay it out in order on the bench, so I don't need a diagram.

There is probably a good diagram in the genuine manual, but maybe not, they assume that skilled mechanics will work on the vehicle in a dealer.

I have a genuine manual, but can't look at it, as I am on my boat, and the manual is about 140 miles away.

I am near Watford , If the blockage is causing such a massive oil leak should I assume I will be changing the head gasket again

Not going that far, I am afraid, I was through there last month, but now staying around Town for a few weeks.

If the gasket is correctly fitted, you may not have to remove the head again, you might be able to loosen the head bolts a bit in order, then remove the rocker gear, replace and re-tighten.

Did you check the banjo?

Also, order a genuine reprint manual from Brooklands Books, you will need it in future.

Also, did you get the cork rocker gasket to seal properly?

The right way to do this is. New gasket. Clean rocker box cover thoroughly. Attach gasket to cover, using workshop adhesive sprayed on the gasket, or the gasket's own adhesive. Replace.

Do not attempt to stick the gasket to the head, or use sealant.
 
Is there any pressurised oilway through a 2.25 Petrol head gasket always thought oil supply was by Banjo on back of head and only the returns went through the gasket ie down pushrod holes?
 
because I snapped one of the turret bolts by using the (wrong) torque settings in the Haynes manual , took the head off to remove the remains
 
I see.....yes...there are head bolts and rocker bolts under the rocker cover.....they prob were referring to the head bolts.
