Right guys need some help with this, the over drive was taken off the gearbox kleaving me with bugger all on the mainshaft so I've ordered the following

533731 HOUSING FOR REAR MAINSHAFT

218244 REAR MAINSHAFT GEAR 1948-84

217476 LOCKWASHER REAR MAINSHAFT

622047 GASKET FOR REAR MAINSHAFT BEARING

217523 PLATE RETAINING REAR MAINSHAFT

90217843 BUSH FOR MAINSHAFT REAR BEARING

217478 REAR MAINSHAFT BUSH BEARING

217525 CIRCLIP FOR REAR MAINSHAFT BEARING

Basically how do I put it all back together, I've got a workshop manual but the pics are a bit small and vague

Well the overdrive was taken off and I rang Craddocks, managed to source another housing off a breaker series nearby and then they said I would need the stuff above if the overdrive had been taken off

Did I not need the new bushesetc ?

when over drive is fitted only transfer gear is changed so you need another gear (218244) tab washer and maybe nut if old is very poor

Actually what should be inside the mainshaft bearing housing ?

Because theres nothing in there, might not have over ordered in that case

The one the scrappy said he had was just the cover (inverted cone) and nothing else

if you look in the back you have mainshaft poking through bearing in bearing housing with seal sat flush ,then spacer tube with splash disc then gear then washer then tab washer then nut then rear cover im posting you plus gasket for the same or silicone

Right excellent, thats what I needed to know :)

So there should be nothing in the cover itself just on the shaft ?

The needle roller bearing and a few other bits are retained in the back cover by the circlip. Fit the gear (I think there should be a shim under the locker that's not mentioned above) - shim - locker then castellated nut (tighten to 100lb ft - if its loose the thing jumps out of gear) then fit the cover having assembled the bearing and all its gubbins) with its gasket.

Just put the bearing inside the cover that was it, the rest didn't look like it'd fit as all I had left was a very large spring pin thing and a few washers that were meant for something else as far as I could see
