Just about to place an order for a full exhaust system for my 1973 series 3, 2.25 petrol. I dont actually have a diagram handy but Im just wondering other than the exhaust system is there any other bits I should order at the same time to complete fitting it.

Thanks in advance:)

Does the system come with the bolts which join the bits together? Your existing ones might be seized. If your unlucky, one or more of the studs for bolting the downpipe to the exhaust manifolt might shear off. Try hard not to do that because it's a pain to sort out.

Mounting points and rubbers, a gasket for the middle section, couple of bolts to go onto the fanimold.

Dont suppose you have the part number for the gasket you mention,, didnt realise there was one.

New exhaust manifold has just been fitted, dont think the system comes with any bolts,, but now you mention it I think I better order some new ones,,Dont suppose you no the size of the bolts? or even better the part number, cant find them on paddocks or lr series.

thanks for your input:)

Hi,

Paddockspares.com will do you a full system, pipes, brackets, hangers, nuts and bolts, and gaskets ........and you might just get change from £50.

These gaskets you mention,,, are these actually a gasket to join 2 pieces of the exhaust together? I didnt realise there was any on a series? Please enlighten me:)

From memory, the only gasket is between the centre pipe and the silencer (Square, 4 bolts) The other 3 bolt clamps between pipes don't have gaskets.

Hi,

Also a gasket between manifold and fronr pipe. All other joints are sperical end sitting in a cup, this allows things to swivel to line up.

When tightening clamp under passenger seat (on RHD), remember that your next visit will probably involve a hack-saw. Set the bolts so you can get at them.

As far as I was aware there is no gasket between manifold outlet and front pipe? There certainly wasnt one when I removed it?

Does anyone no the part numbers for the bolts/nuts that secure the exhaust together,, unsure if there the same size as Ive only removed the front pipe. But Im looking for the 3 nuts/bolts that secure front pipe to intermediate pipe,,, and the four nuts/bolts that secure intermediate pipe to tail pipe. Looked through lr series but cant seem to find what Im looking for.

Hi,

Sorry, my mistake. Some do, some don't.

I think if there are three studs there is no gasket. If there are four studs there IS a gasket, same shape as gasket on silencer.

:D people cant tho can they !

had a full exhaust system arive from paddocks on friday, £40 or something, fer me series 2a, hope it goes on better than the last one ! were a right bitch to get on, took some ****ing about to get it right,

would rather make me self a custom system now out of stainless tube and some off the shelf bends , weld it all up, job done! last a years longer than the mild systems :)
