Hi, I have a series 3 fitted with a Daihatsu 2.5 diesel engine and want to upgrade brakes. Is that a conversion kit that I can buy to convert from standard drums to discs.
If there is no kit on market, has anybody done this , if so what parts were used.
Cheers

Chris Perfect did this kit and much more , why can't you use a long wheel base brake set up
with twin leading shoes and 1 inch larger than swb , the standard set up is ok with normal road speeds with your conversion , just needs setting up with a bit of care , remember to chamfer the leading edges of the shoes .

zeus do the most convenient and cost effective kit i found when checking for someone the other week and didnt require early stub axles around £500 looked easy but havent fitted one yet

I've got discs all round on my 2a and it stops great and in a straight line! ;)

Hi V8jon
I'm new here currently building my first LR series 3 wanting disc brakes not sure if calipers or axle is the way to go would love to hear what you did to your 2a if you can spare the time.
Thanks mike

There is a chap on the seriously series forum who has developed a kit that uses standard defender calipers and disks and just attained European TUV approval. They were mentioned in "The Landy" rag

Teh only downsides at the moment is that he is now looking into manufacturing and also that due to clearances you cannot run standard LR steel rims.

The advantages are that they are standard LR parts.

As for installation though you have to look into the volumes of brake fluid your brake mater cylinders can move. He recommends fitting a Defender Master and Servo and then of course with this you will probably need to fit a restrictor to the rear axle to stop them locking up.

Not to hard in a 2/3 but a lot more to think about on an S1
