Hi all
I have been reading some of the posts on this site and it has helped me repair the chassis on my series 3. I am posting some of the work carried out to the front of the rover.
When we bought the rover (e bay) it turned out that we knew the seller, just a coincidence. He had bought the rover for his son to do up and use off road. They had done some work on it but I must say it was not done very well.
They had replaced the rear crossmember and driver side outrigger also had a new petrol tank. The welding was not good (see photos) although I must say my welding skills are not that good!
The main work was to replace and repair the dumb irons first so I remover the wings and found the bulk head had been repaired and was ok but the bulk head feet needed to be replaced also the sill ends had dis appeared.
I have posted these pictures for now and will sort out the rest over the weekend.

from what little i can see in your first and third pictures that you've posted...

it looks as if Stevie Wonder had his hands tied behind his back and then given the job of glueing the bits back together with half a packet of chewing gum

i suggest you find someone who can weld

Theres a welding insult if I ever saw one

Depending on where you are I may be free to give you a hand or lesson, I've got a 90 in for welding next week so you're welcome to come watch and learn (I will be stick welding it though, but it'll be neater than your mig)

Hi Dr evil/NiteMare
I may be didn't put over that the landrover came to me with the bad welding!
Thanks for the offer of a welding lesson cheers

The photo enclosed is some more of the same (bad welding) see the crossmember weld at back of the wheel. I have corrected all the crap welding and fishplated the rear crossmember also replaced two more outriggers Just finished the chassis painting at the back and fed the wiring into a waterproof box.
I had to cut and plate some of the chassis top but this helped me paint the inside using a 2inch radiator brush the type with a long handle (top Tip).
Also welded the crossmember on stright as it was twisted.
Next job is the seat box which needs some of the ali repairing and repaint.
I also need to find a dash cowl part no 346944 if any one has one.

cheers

That's my crap welding better after flap wheel though. I did the normal welding practice and ended up in casualty (arc eye) my family though it very funny. The welds are quite strong but no pretty. Cheers

They look a bit cold to me, as well as looking like chopped up slugs but its mainly the coldness I'd be worried about. Seems to be a lot of material on the top

What would you advice ? When I turned the power up to the next setting started to push holes in the steel. I have four setting on a 150amp Kennedy it's 1-2 and max-min I run it at min-2 for those welds at wire 5.5.cheers

Just a couple of hour last nite to repair the seat box coners using ali angle (from Wicks). It has done the job and is not seen because the posh county has carpets around the seatbox.
I have over the weekend replaced the sill ends, the other had rotted.
Cheers

Managed to get the red oxide primer on the seat box and make a start on the rear door.
Bit of advise please: the door has cracked (see photo) from the spare wheel mount. Should I grind a V into the crack and weld or just weld over the crack?
Do you think I need to strengthen the door in any way?
Cheers
