Hi Everyone,

I came across this chasis number on a Series 3 in Pakistan is bad shape. It has a 1970 on the registration but otherwise looks like a Series 3 which came in October 1971. Does the chasis number look right? To me the first "2" looks out of place and the top of the second "2" looks a bit rounded. The VIN inside the car also does not look right but i could be wrong as I am a beginner in the Series world. I understand that the chasis numbers on Series were hand stamped in those days. Is that right? If so, that would explain the first "2" being slightly out of place.

Any guidance/views would be gratefully received. Thank you.

Chassis number is in the right place and they were hand stamped.
As for the vin and info plate could be original but as you know they would have been removed to get on top of that carpet.

Many thanks. That is very helpful. Would you happen to know where I could find some examples of hand stamped chassis numbers for Series 3 defenders? Just to get an idea of font etc? Google search has not revelead too many examples unfortunately.

They are not "defenders". They are just Land Rover Series III That may help with your search, but have to say they are pretty much like the ones in your pic.
