Hello all

My SWB series 3 has got a 109 axle up front. I recently bled the brakes as the pedal went soft and now I have excellent pedal pressure and all is good there.

The only issue now is the front brakes are out of balance and the N/s front locks hard and the landy pulls almost to full lock under heavy braking. I have check the shoe clearance and they both spin freely. I tightened then to the point they wouldn’t move and backed off the same amount where they both span free. Any ideas? Just want some ideas so I know what to buy and not waste money!

thanks

I had this problem, when I took the drum off, the shoes on the o/s had worn unevenly. They weren't contacting the drum for their full width. One edge looked nearly new and the opposite edge was worn away.

Also put some chamfers on the leading edges on shoes , stops them grabbing ,

sorted mine when pulling to the side

It's about nine years since I last worked on the twin leading drums, but have you checked that you've got the springs all in correctly? And they are notoriously tricky to bleed so if one side's a bit soft the other might feel grabby.

The 11" brakes have an adjustable bolt on the back plate that is to keep the shoe central should be just in contact with the shoe , they where fitted with a little end cap so shoe could slide over them but they tend to get lost left off. Special name for them but that escapes me at the moment.

Worth double checking the other side, give it another bleed just in case and that they are both adjusted equally
