good day. I have purchased a series 3 landrover 1984. Had a look today and the bonnet just lifts up ( has spare wheel on it so very heavy!) but noticed the pin on the bonnet was missing that would go in to the catch which is there. I got through the mot like that in march this year. Does this sound right!!! I have found some pins on eBay (if it needs one) but how would you fit it as there is a hole in the bonnet but not right through. But if the heavy wheel counts as a catch then great. Any advice would be helpful

If I remember right it screws into a captive nut.
Ah right I will have a look in day light and see if there is any sign of a nut. Didn't look it but it was dark and raining. Ps do you know where the bonnet release leaver would be it it did click shut?

Thank you so much so far. Hope that nut is there as not what to do if not. Wouldn't mind if wheel weight is enough for mot. ( which it could be)

There should be a bracket under the bonnet held on with four bolts. This Bracket has a threaded hole in it as above. Its a nut welded on the back of the bracket. The spring, cup washer and pin screw into the nut but there should be a half nut for locking it in or the pin will just keep unscrewing itself and falling out.
I dont think it will pass an MOT without the pin that locks it shut or a second hook to stop it blowing open if the pin fails. Then again he might miss it if he is not used to series Land Rovers.

No bolts holding mine to the bonnet plate with nut on is welded in place.
With no spare wheel on the bonnet it is an accident waiting to happen pretty terrifying when the bonnet blocks your view at 50mph.

I do have the spare wheel on which is good but can't believe it got through an mot !!

Right had a look under torch light and there is just a hole straight through the bonnet. There is no bracket or any lining , just single layer bonnet with hole right so but it's slightly under the edge of the spare wheel. So I could bolt a pin on with the nut on top of the bonnet but under tyre or just get some hooks!!!!

This pic is same as my setup borrowed off bay.
