Just bought a Series 3. New to Series Land Rovers so please forgive what may be a dumb question. Mine has a pick up body, cab and a heavy duty, off road, steel roll cage.

I prefer the more traditional look so am planning to remove the roll cage. If I removed the cab as well could I replace it with with a full canvas hood? Are the body and doors suitable for the sticks and hoods advertised?

I dont know the answer, But welcome :).

Do you have any pics as it may help. But they are mostly interchangeable part so I do see why you cant if you have parts available.

So I guess this leads to, are you in the land of the boy with his finger in the dyke??;).

Rollcages are not standard, is it welded or bolted in?

The body is interchangeable, but there is a moderately long list of things you'll need to convert to canvas. And a number of different options. You will want some form of roll over protection, so you might be able to retain the cage or part of it and have a canvas made to fit.

As for saying "traditional". Land Rovers have come in all shapes and sizes.... thinking anyone body config is traditional is just fooling yourself.
 
It is a pretty straight forward job to swap cab for hard top but as above quite a few parts to fit a canvas Doors and tops remain the same, there is an additional part that fits above.
There are two types of roll cage, full off road type that is fitted down to chassis and a safety addition hoop for every day soft tops which bolts to the tub in place of the basic front canvas hoop.

Looking at the ebay listing pics there's a good chance that roll cage is welded to the chassis. Even if it was bolted it's still a fiddle to remove then there's the guts of a grand for new fitting kit and full tilt. In its highly modified form it has a certain appeal and the roll cage is integral to that look. Got to ask if you like a traditional looking Series why buy one that's been so highly modded?
 
Looks good. But looks like it has been built for trials events. The rear tub/arches have been trimmed and cut away and looks like the tank has been moved. I’d wager the cage is welded in place. It could be removed, but quite a chunk of work and the other mods mean it’ll never be a true high fidelity example of a standard vehicle. If that is what you want it would be less work to buy something closer to what you are after.

There are also a few different types of canvas. You said it’s a pickup. But this picture shows no roof? A pickup canvas or bikini top would be fairly easy to fit. But a full canvas much harder as the front hoop is external rather than inside the windscreen.

Ultimately you can do pretty much anything with time and money. Which if you are doing it yourself can be sensible money. If you are paying someone then I’ll revert to my comment above and say it would be easier and probably cheaper to simply buy a vehicle closer to what you are after.
 
I appreciate the input. I am not looking to achieve a pristine original example. To me it will be a mix of working vehicle ( towing boat, moving stuff and trips to the tip) and a bit of fun in the summer. I am not a classic car purist. That said I am not too keen on the ultra off road look. The roll cage is defiantly bolted on. Would take about 2 hours to remove I estimate. Fuel tank is underneath the drivers seat. Picture below with the cab in place.

I bought it because of the condition and price. Maybe 1/2 to a 1/3 the price of a similar condition original spec car.

I might cut off the rear support struts that project into the rear load space and live with it for a while. I can always remove the rest of the roll cage later and add canvas.
 
If the truck cab fits underneath the roll cage as shown in the photos, you should be able to fit a bikini hood with just a shark tooth rail and front hoop.

I ran that setup for about 12 months with none of the extra gutters/rails around the door tops without issue.
