Having trouble with a 2.3 diesel. Keeps blowing oil out of the breather . engine has had new rings and the bores honed, the crank has very little wear on it , new pressure relief valve on the oil pump.using 10/40 oil . all new gaskets went into the rebuild. cannot work out what the problem is. any ideas ?

With cap off is It a proper blow you can feel with your hand or oil drops splashing out when engine running , oil gets pumped to rocker shaft and each rocker so not unusual for oil to get splashed about as that would be normal lubrication

sorry ,do not have the capability to do this. but will say that the vehicle went for a 3 mile drive today and it blew 1/2 a litre of oil out of the breather. if that is any help.

That’s a lot, have you cleaned the mesh in filler cap with petrol and have you a pipe coming from it to inlet manifold which is clear

So it there a pressure of gases coming with the oil , or oil squirts under pressure
You might have to run it with cover off to get a better idea of what’s going on , take bonnet off, cover everything else in old sheets / cardboard

Something must be missing or broken or reassembled wrong , I would advise taking cover off take a pic not running and with running to see where it’s coming from

engine has been rebuilt. crank fine no wear, bores honed new rings, head tested and skimmed , new gaskets all round. checked and rechecked every thing. new release valve for crankcase. it gets warmed up then just spews oil out of breather

Need to see where it’s coming from before breather ie an uncovered oil hole in rocker shaft as an example
