I am putting together a 5 bearing 2.25 and the rear crankshaft seal has previously made a groove in the crank, is this something to be concerned about when it comes to it sealing or do I just put a new seal on?

Will be hard to seal with a groove ,what diameter is the seal area and could a speedi sleeve be fitted?
Probably best to ask the question in the engine section and James Martin will advise.
What price is a new crankshaft?

polish the crank boss and fit new seal so the lip seal misses the groove and is running on a fresh part of the boss, which likely means not pressing the seal in quite so far

Do u need to put a shim behind the seal or just get it square on the shafts? Also when I took it off there was sealent on it

this was a problem on old minis. we just put an old piston ring behind the seal and it solved the problem
