engine starts and runs sounds ok .after 30 mins cuts out.will start again but cuts out straight away.if left long enough process starts again.checked fuel breather and changed coil.help .any ideas.keep it simple i`m not a mechanic.

when it cuts out check to see if the fuel tank is pressurized buy taking the ca[ off

points, condensor, coil, carb icing.. vapor lock..

does it only happen when idle, etc

Is the fuel pipe in the engine bay anywhere it can get to hot

get a cheep clear inline fillter near the carb so you can check for fuel easy when it stops

carry a spare plug so you can jump out pull a lead to see if you have lost or got a weak spark when it stops,
is your coil hot when it stops

let us know how you get on :D

hi Iann i have a new fuel pump to fit tomorrow and was thinking of changing the fuel line as well.an inline filter is in with a service kit i have ordered.thanks for the advice i`ll keep you informed regards semi.

you can usually tell if a coil has gone bad because it gets very hot.

my vote is on the points and condensor :)

I had this in warm, worse in the warm. Used to cut out under power or at least struggle. In the end I tracked it down to the fuel pump getting too warm and boiling modern fuels (they have a lower evaporation temperature due to ethanol and other additives).

I ended up fitting a Facet electric pump and its cured all problems...
