So I have some great news after hours of banging my head throwing spanners out.

Lots of advise from you guys and checks I finally got to the point of it must be the exchanged pump.

I called the diesel guy and asked him if he would rebuiled my original pump and take this one back which he did no questions asked.

I fitted it on the engine after putting it into timing position took the inspection cover off and aligned the A up with the circlip tighted it all down and blead the system.

3 cranks and she fired straight up and ran a treat also seemed to fix the smoking issue as well.

I'm now one happy man.

Thanks all for you help and advice.

Richard

Glad it’s sorted are you naming and shaming
I won't name and shame them because he has been very good and didn't question me after I explained everything I had checked, He also re-did an injector pop test as well and made sure he had not made a mistake.

There is still a bit of tweaking as I think there was a slight knocking from the pump so may need retarding a tad but I think that's just little tweak of the pump.

Thanks
Richard

Great news. I hope the pump I have in at the moment is a success. I’ve had similar problems to you after I refurbed the full engine. I never did find the sweet spot but found the pump leaking diesel (eventually).
Mine is in at Diesel Bobs in Blackburn.
