Hello all, am putting my series 3, petrol, 5 bearing crank back together & have found conflicting info re cap bolt torque, varies between 85 & 100 ftlbs. Anyone know what the correct torque is?

Is this main bearings or big ends?

In any case, I would go with what it says in the genuine manual.

This normally useful but confirms 85 for 3 bearing and 100 for diesel
Don’t think it would harm having 85 on the 5 bearing

All revealed in the 5mb engine supplement at the back of above manual , …..it depends on engine serial number to use the higher torque

You haven’t read the 5mb supplement properly some petrol engines are 100Ft/lbs as they use diesel spec bolts check your engine number

checked eng no & its the 361281............................no. Do the later eng nos use stretch bolts like modern cars????
