Hi all I’ve just acquired a 1983 3 109 petrol I love it ! I have acquired a donor lwb hardtop sides and catflap . Will be repainting and replacing all seals and have all replacement fittings to attach .. my questions are :
does anybody have a link to show step by step installation , there’s two of us and was planning to install sides first (loosely ) place timber struts over top of sides , get top into position then remove struts carefully and bolt down loosely .. is this the best way? as don’t think lifting all assembled is going to be easy and no pulley option for me ? Also I have a new flat seal for the windscreen to hardtop roof . Do I affix to the windscreen top and glue on permanently or the under lip front edge of the hardtop (as will be removing seasonally ) can’t find a single you tube video of the process but loads on removing one thanks all

There’s no specific instructions to put on a hardtop if I read your message correctly. You can figure it out if you get hold of the parts list and workshop manual, if it’s been fixed for many years it’ll be a right bigger , the corner fixings will be corroded/ seized. It’s pretty straight forward; get completely new fixings but you need the part number..

Thanks John
probably was a little unclear . I have all fitting parts (new) hardtop and sides are set aside ready to paint /apply new seals

wanted some advice on
1) shall I fit x 2 sides loosely then top as if I bolt roof on to sides I won’t be able to easily lift into position ?
2 ) for the new seal from windscreen to hardtop do I affix to the windscreen top permanently using a suitable glue (what type as only have rubber strip ) or attach to hardtop front underside lip ?
Cheers

top and sides are not heavy 2 people can easily lift them together or separate, but id secure the sides, then fit the roof and adjust the top of the sides to fit door before tightening the top and adding any extra sealant to seals you might decide

This was what I was going to say, securely bolt down the sides, then attach the roof loosely and at that point if more adjustment is needed the re-loosen the sides. I know it is not what you are doing but once the front is attached to the windscreen there is still plenty of movement up and down. On my 110 I managed to remove the sides without removing the roof.

I've done it the way you plan. Sides on, roof on trestles behind the truck, planks across the top. Works OK. Have a few long bolts to drop through or g-clamps as there is a point where the planks have to come out and the sides can splay out and the roof fall inside.
