Help. Have the 1 ton set up on our 2.25 Petrol Ex-army 109" truck and want to replace the rear springs so that it is still as original as possible. Have new leafs for the front but still looking for the back. These are the springs with the brackets that gives about another 2" ride height. Can i use normal heavy duty springs for a 109"? Whats the difference. Very new so please forgive if this is in another thread but did search - honest.

Cant help much on your question though, 'cept if you change the bushes your in for a heck of a job.
I didnt think 1 toner springs fitted the chassis, obviously do.
Paddocks/cradocks do springs, but dont fit britpart springs, they have a rep for being crap.

Thanks. Alistair from Richards Chassis has just dropped off our new chassis and he reckons just use normal 109" rear springs. They might give a bit softer rid but will do the job and we are not going to be towing a gun! Will they fit though?

You'll find that the MOD never did use 1 ton springs, and if you genuinely have them then they are likely fitted after de-mob.
The usual ones for the Rover 3/4 ton (that's the 109) in both GS and CL guises are what civvy would call 'heavy duty springs'.
Part numbers are:
272967 Road Spring Rear Heavy Duty RH
272968 Road Spring Rear Heavy Duty LH

U bolts for Salisbury (Metric) are
592182, but check this first.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I have just started a chassis swap on my Ex-Mil 109" SIII FFR. I bought new springs all round but the ones for the rear 272967/8 are different from the ones I took off. The ones I removed have a couple of additional leaves on the bottom that are much flatter (almost straight) and do not go all the way to the ends. They are bolted by the center pin and have clamps at either end that protrude well above the main spring. I can't find any drawing or detail in the parts books at all. Anuone got any ideas what these bits are and do I need them? Will attached a photo later when I get home.
Thanks for any advise

The additional, almost straight leaves were fitted for additional support over rough ground when towing to help prevent the axles from hitting the top stops on the chassis.

I had them on my ex-MoD Series I, and they seem to have been fitted as standard.

So do you think they are optional fit then? Do you happen to know parts numbers for them?
Thanks for the help

Sorry, can't help you with that one. You could ask someone who deals specifically with ex-MoD stuff.
