just fitted new shoes and drums to my swb the problem i have is the wheel cylinders are free the adjuster's are all the way off, the shoes moe free .
when the drum is fitted the drum is hard to turn like the shoes are binding ..the springs are fitted the right way all looks fine and i dont have steady posts fitted ...does anyone have any ideas please ? ...

if the shoes are removed and the drum is fitted without them it moves free so it isnt a hub/ back plate problem todo with the drum .....

back plates are straight and not bent .....

shoes are also the same as the ones i removed so are the drums .havent got the tape mesure out yet ,but to be fair only 1 set of brakes listed for a swb with 10" drums .....

Hi,

Try removing hose clamp from brake hose. Don't laugh, it took me a long time to work out why I couldn't get my drums back on.

Slacken bleed nipple, then retighten, If that solves the problem, buy a new flexible hose.

If it doesn't solve problem, wind adjuster right off, then on again just a smidgen (forcing adjuster the wrong way CAN move the shoes). Jemmy each shoe in turn. If shoe moves in, suspect sticky pistons, though it could still be a hose.

If problem is on both wheels, suspect flex hose ....... or no free play on brake pedal. Check that pedal dangles freely, some get sticky on their fulcrum, prevents fluid returning.

It possible, not probable, that drum is not sitting square on hub. Dirt between faces?

Be aware that various drawings showing assembly of brake parts are not always correct.

you said new shoes and drums ?
are they genuine ? might be that pattern parts arnt quit the right sizes so not the perfect fit they should be

cheers for the help ...im going down the route of cheap parts it seems the material on the new shoe's is a little on the thick side im going to file a little off the shoe back plates where they meet the wheel cylinder ..ill update in a few days when i know more .

i will still check the brake pedal ..ive got braded hoses so i cant clamp off the hoses .. im shure the wheel cylinders are ok and do go all the way in ....

sorted this now turns out it was cheap aftermarket shoes .al, they needed was a little fettling with a grinder and all is now well .....
