They're near me, and I admit to not using them much because I don't particularly like the bloke who runs it.

But. He does make very good reproduction parts, and I'm fairly sure that I saw some grilles last time I was there.

Thanks. However at £120 I may as well just try to snipe a slightly cheaper original or have one made by a fabricator. I have the pdf blueprints for one. Just individual manufacturing for a one off tends to be pricey. Lots of new made ones on eBay for around 150

That’s my thought. There’s two versions. The one I linked and “the outback” model which is chunkier and overall, in my opinion, less aesthetically pleasing. Obviously I’d prefer an original but the Rocky Mountain one looks good. Just hoping that someone on here may have hands on experience with one and especially mounting one

I've seen something similar to the RM ones, and to be honest they look a bit 'flat' to my eyes. But a lot better than the plastic SIII jobs, and I won't be rude about it to your face if we meet.

Yeah I agree. They don’t look as good as a proper one. However it’s a much better looking alternative to the S3 grille.

I know a guy who knows a guy who’s using an original one as a dog guard. Just waiting to see said guy again about him being able to sell it.

Big horrid plastic grilled shouldn’t be on my tratter!
 
You can get NOS ones from pangolin4x4.com in the US for $160 which I think is about 120 Pounds.

I thought that about the rm ones, luckily managed to snag an original on the bay, can't remember how much it was now, had it a couple of years but still haven't got round to fitting it.
 
Personally I don't like the RM ones; they are nothing like the real thing and stick out like a sore thumb, someone I know has one and it just doesn't look good or right.
Having said that, I have no problems with the proper plastic grille, it looks right on a series 3 and sticking an earlier type on, seems a bit dishonest to me; like putting a Cooper S badge on an ordinary Mini.
 
I recently went through the same dilemma and in the end opted to just spend the lots of money required to buy an original. I looked at the RM ones but they are, as mentioned above, a bit flat. This means they still do not look quite right. They also looked like they fit with lots of little self tappers, whereas the original sits in little brackets at the bottom of the rad panel which I thought was a better fitting method. I don't want more holes to rust out in my already rusty rad panel! Because you are fitting it for aesthetic reasons (same as me) I would take the approach of just save for a little longer and get a proper one. You will never be entirely happy with an imitation and it wont look quite right. The original however looks great!

I reckon you're probably right. May as well keep the hunt up for a good deal on one. Yours is looking really nice. Big fan of red i see. I need to paint the headlamp surrounds body colour too. All little things.

I am currently going through the process of sympathetically aging (nothing that cannot easily be swapped back to standard). Next thing is swapping the mirrors to the older style rod ones.

The red is a coincidence. The 110 was badly sprayed pillar box red when I bought it, and this one was pink (very faded red) and came from an school friend at a price I could not refuse. I didn't want to change the colour to something non-original, and you only have to keep one set of touch up paint if they are both he same!

Yes, they're ever so slightly cleaner and brighter. I need to do the wing mirrors too, mine aren't even uniform. I like the red, it's very English looking, stands out nicely too. I was going to remove the chequer plates but i feel it will be a hassle and i don't mind them too much.

It is actually Masai red so not a very English origin, but does make it stand out from everyone else's green or blue ones.
Once fitted chequer plate is difficult to remove as you will end up with lots of little holes which will need repairing. Thankfully the series has never had any fitted and unlike the 110 I don't stand on the wings ad the bonnet so it will remain that way.

Yeah that sounds like too much hassle, it doesn't look bad, i don't know if it was fitted during it's military time or when it was a recovery vehicle, so i guess i'll just leave it.
 
Whilst I was at Ashtree on Saturday collecting my new recon'd galv bulkhead I noticed there was two Maltese grills hung up on a wall and as we couldn't get the attention of the guy ( working away there welding and grinding ) I though about taking one but didn't but once we got his attention I asked the ? and they wanted £200 each for them :eek: so we didn't bother getting them.
