Hey everyone,

I'm nearing the end of the rebuild of my 1965 Series 2a gearbox and am preparing for a compliance check and warranty of fitness. The Series has been restored back to "original", no mods etc. I'm setting up a "dossier" of the rebuild process, photos and work completed with the intention of helping the compliance process run smoothly. The people performing the compliance checks regularly do work on classics so are sympathetic to the vintage. That said, I would like to include a section in my dossier about the original factory build specifications i.e. windscreen wipers, seatbelts etc.

Can anyone point me to a document that covers what the Landy's came out of the factory with? If you have any other advice around compliance checks that would be helpful, I'm all ears.

I will also look for local NZ documentation for the WOF/Compliance standards as well, as this is more relevant than the factor specifications.

Try the British motor museum in gaydon. Armed with your chassis number they should pull the original build sheet, assuming Warwickshire built and not local NZ. Also can't go too far wrong with the parts manual, i'd have thought, plus optional parts book.
 
I don't know NZ spec but I'll assume it's similar/same to UK

Yea BMMIHT is a good place to start for info', but is there an owners club in your part of the World you could ask ?
Options and requirements differ dependant on Market.
I am pretty sure no seatbelts where fitted for the UK market and the Passenger wiper was an option.

I've joined the local Land Rover Owners Club in Auckland. Great bunch of people! They put me on to a sympathetic Compliance organization. I'll pitch the question to them as well. I'm booked in for a Compliance check on the 19th of December - fingers crossed. Thanks!

Good advice. A friend did something similar for his MGB. Probably worth the few $$
 
Thanks to everyone that supported me through the processes of getting my Landy back on the road (legally). Today I collected the registration which completes the last step of getting "Pete" back on the road. I finally got through the compliance process last week after having to jump through several flaming hoops. The most difficult was having to get the chassis certified by an engineer because it had been painted, and not sighted prior to the painting.

After this, it was largely plain sailing. Just a few shims to remove to stablise the steering and a replacement of a wheel stud. As a bonus, I was also able to retain the original 1965 plates.

Thanks again everyone. Now back off the road to rebuild the diffs and axles :)

Will do! I better give "Pete" a quick clean. Funnily enough, Pete was just in a photo shoot for a local clothing line here in NZ (and might be in a commercial as well). I had to trailer him there as he didn't have the WOF or Rego at the time. I'll share those photos as well when they are released.
 
Hey @Frisol ! I'm just embarking on restoring a 1960 Series 2 LR down here in Christchurch and would love any advice/tips/things to prep for etc that you learnt during the recertification process? Mines pretty straight and with the original engine too but been sitting a long time with the usual rust etc. Looking to restore to 'original' as much as I can, so was excited to find a post about someone recently recertifying one in NZ, so would love any info you can share!!
