hi, all new to landys, and would appriciate some ideas, engine runs nice with just an occasional pop from exhaust, twice now it has been running on idle for a little while, while trying to sort trailer lights out. the engine just stops, won't start. if you leave it 10 mins, it does start and runs nice. any ideas or is this just what happens when you idle for too long. reegards John

My series 3 used to do that, then one day wouldn't start again, the rotor arm was faulty, replaced it and problem was gone.

If you can get it to fail check the spark (rotor/cap is a good start as mentioned above). The other thing you might want to have a look at is the point gap - if the rubbing block is very worn you can get that kind of intermittent.

If the spark is good when it fails, check the fuel level in the carburettor - if the fuel pump diaphragm is dodgy or one of the valves is sticking then the truck can run itself dry, and the cool-off period let things settle down and start working again for a bit.

Could be vapour locking, at idle the petrol is drawn through slower and can overheat and vapour lock..... check the routing of your fuel line and is there a heat shield over the exhaust manifold

cheers steve

Hi, steve thanks for that this could also be the problem as the fuel line goes above the manifold and it does not have a heat shield. regards John

hi, all thanks for comments problem is resolved, it was the fuel line vapour lock issue, have re-routed and moved the filter, and has appeared to resolve the issue. great thanks guys
