Hi all.

Thought id do a thead on my series 2 restoration,

Its a 1961 series 2. In need of total restro, it was used in a air soft field for a number of years, so theres no glass left, all the insides have been shot at, engine dosnt ect,

Im not sure how good the chassis is so far i know its had lots of welding done in the past and has several holes in it now - looks like i will be buying a new one or a good second hand one. The bulkhead is also gone - dont think its repairable so will get replaced if i can find a good one!

heres how i bought it.

Finally got it in the shed and have started the strip down. its proving to be a nightmare, most of the bolts are sized and snap, the sizes are all over the place half are metric half are AF, some bits fall off other bits are putting up a real fight.

Getting the seats out proved awkard to, they where welded to the old runners and next to impossiable to get the grinder in to cut the welds

Will update as and when i do stuff!

Bulkhead looks well repairable.think its a 2a, two,s have door stop tubes bolted on, 2a's are welded.Body panels look pretty good.

The number on the chassis starts 141, which is a series 2 as the 2a's started with a 2 i believe,
its on the wrong year plate as it dates a 1963 but is a 1961.

bulkheads are usually worse than they look when you start attacking the rot, but I have seen threads where skilled people have repaired worse, good luck with the resto

It is the top of the bulkhead thats hard to fix door pillars and footwell parts are readily available.

Good luck with it I remember when mine arrived and folk thought I was nuts to take it on!

The rebuild will pass soon enough and I will watch with interest :)

cheaply too. I use the Buckley brothers, well made and cheap.
looks a nice old thing but unless your the woman in the first picture whom ever she is? she don't look happy! but until they drive these old girls they will never understand, lol  :D

anyway good luck with the restorations not many decent 61 and 63's left now and the ones that are left are so crudely :)rolleyes:REBUILT:rolleyes:)

parts sat around, then vehicle a while waiting to be sold?

looks good, bit of paint is all :D

wonder if it went into the mod and got demobbed in that big sell off in 63

Maybe, i have no history with it atall, i know im the tenth owner of it, and the log book states it was regustured in august 1961, I could apply to the dvla for a age related plate.

Done a little more today,

got the side still off the drivers side and removed the seat box from the cab.

Iv also just purchased a mot failure Discovery, the plan is to fit the engine from that in this but not 100% sure, it was to good a price to say no!

Got my Discovery yesterday, plan was to fit the engine from this in the series 2 but not sure yet, it was to cheap to say no to, i might do the mot work on it yet or make it in to a offroad truck!

looks like a nice truck how much is needed for the mot, if it is solid I would be inclined to keep the disco as well as the series :D

Not sure yet on it, im waiting to get the fail sheet from the last owner, i know it needs welding on the arches where the doors shut on the rear, but not looked much further!, was a bargin at only £250 :)
