am i right in thinking that a series 2 with a coil chassis and a 200tdi would require a vic check?
i have read the dvla guidelines and dvla want the original chassis or a new chassis to original spec with manufacturers reciept, and two of the following suspension front and back, axles(both), steering, gearbox, engine.
the landy in question has none of these, what would be the consequences of driving this and being stopped by the police/dvla.

Is it something you are building or buying?

If buying make sure its not a stolen 200tdi defender with a series number plate, someone on here got caught out with one of these and seems to have disapperead when he realised he was probably driving round in a stolen motor.

possibly buying. its a series body with richards coil chassis. its on a well known auction site with a high price tag.

Depends on how long ago it was "converted"
Personally, Id leave well alone, I know there are rules, but not enough about them to know which side is legal and which isnt, and I'd not be wanting to end up with someone elses nicked motor.

its the tax free coiler aspect that interested me.

afaik, that's an instant 5 points knocked off for the chassis and 2 for the suspension.. that only leaves you with 7 left and you need 8.

the only way is if they did it before 1998 and have legit reciepts / proof that it pre-dates that

If you can prove it was done before the new rules came in you might get away with keeping the original id but if it was done recently it would have to have an iva and would be q plated.

I'd stay away unless the seller has a lot of documentation to prove the rebuild.

unless built before sva came in then no chance, the seller may have the Richards receipt.. if so that may be dated but I doubt very much its early enough..

cheers steve

Coils on a series isn't impossible, flicking through some back issues of LRO and other landy mags, from 94-96 theres a few places selling conversion kits, and even on the "help" pages the eggspurt saying to convert to coils on more than one occasion.

its all the bits together that ring bells to me,

do love the line in the link
"Its Not Your Usual Rubbish That Is Mocked Up To Look Original And Tax Exempt This Is The Real Deal"
Really, you sure...

yeah, it needs a good look at whats been done. if its been done right, all well and good. the vic check is still a major concern. and i think it is overpriced. if you add up the sum of parts £5k doesnt sound alot, but you never get back what youve invested.

btw, they look like defender doors to me, hinges at least. Or did series 3's have them hinges as well. I know 2as don't
