recently bought a series two 109 chassis and brought it home to begin the rebuilding process when i noticed a sticker saying station wagon.. should this effect me in any way as i have a 109 truck cab? i also noticed that there were no tail gate hinge lugs. i have ordered a pair since but just wondered why there wasn't a pair on there? are there any other differences between the two types of chassis?

A station wagon has a door at the back so no tailgate hinges! The front 2 tub supports will also be about 8 inches too low, you'll need to extend them somehow. Detail mounting differences in this area but not a problem.

Surely LR would have made the chassis the same, more or less?
The 110 are all the same and bolt on brackets were used to accommodate different body styles and I wouldn't expect earlier models to be any different but I don't know for sure of course just trying to think like LR would.

yeah i was just curious as my dad rebuilt a series three station wagon last year and also bought himself a new chassis that came with the lugs? but anyway thanks for the heads up about the supports!

yeah it just seems a bit odd as we have ordered another chassis before which came with the lugs welded on.. but its a land rover isn't it.. nothing that cant be done eh?

The 109 chassis is different in the ways I said. There isn't really a difference with an 88 as the tub is exactly the same (no rear doors see), so any version will do. You can get bolt on tailgate brackets also.

I'm curious now Rattlegun , are you saying that the station wagon chassis is different to a standard 109 chassis ie- with welded on extensions to accommodate the sw body ?
The 110 sw has a bolt on cross member with bolt on taller brackets to fill the 8" gap that the 110 van body doesn't need.
Doesn't seem like the sort of thing LR would do tbh.

placed the tub on top of the chassis for a rough idea of size and check everything fits and by the looks of things the for brackets on the out riggers have been welded on the wrong way around...

im pretty sure the mounting's should be further back say roughly in the cure of that out rigger, someone has made a mistake when they welded that mounting that day, i wonder how many other was made with that mistake, thats a costly mistake to make.
