I'm trying to find a Series 1 at a sensible price for a restoration project. Does anyone know where I might be able to find one?
 
Got a 56 86 Inch Series One that has just stood in my garage for the best part of a year, due an MOT in April. Got a Montego diesel in it, parabolics, needs some paint on the wings, have got loads of spares, original petrol engines, a 2 litre diesel etc.etc.

Sounds ideal but as it's got an MOT it's probably well out of my budget! I'm buying it as "retirement" present for my dad , to thank him for building my 2a for me for my 17th.

I only have a budget of £150 and I'm probably being a little hopeful that I'll get anything for that sort of money. Perhaps have to look at a 2/3 series rolling chassis?
 
Yep, you would have to add a nought on the end for something with an MOT you should be able to get a 2A project for that sort of money but lots of work !
 
I've been in touch with a so called rescue centers who say they're interested in preserving the marque but they want £450 for a chassis with a log book. I want a project but starting just with a chassis is probably too much.
 
best off driving around the countryside and if you see an old dog in a field go ask the farmer if he wants rid, where are you based, there are a few old uns kicking around the fields of north wales ;)
 
For 150 you'll have to be pretty lucky to get hold of a S1 these days. the best price I got one at was 350 for a as yella put it "a dog in a field" prob was someone else also saw it so price went up a bit (but it had an overdrive:D ) But if youre patient you might get lucky.

A S2 project however is very possible at 150 but it will be a complete basket case

I might be interested inthe 2L diesel engine if its going spare. I'm restoring a very early (april '58) S2 diesel and the engine is a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment so I might need a replacement but won't know for the next moth or so. What are you looking for it

Thanks Yella, I'm currently between Swindon and Widnes. Can you point me in the right direction re N Wales?
 
Thanks everybody for the help but the plans have changed a little. We now have a MOT failure "classic" Range Rover. Perhaps we'll revisit the Series 1 next?
