I've found a hardtop for my Series 1 86" 1955 but now find it actually came off a 1953 Series 1 SWB. Ive measured the top and sides and they appear pretty similar to my cars measurements etc .....but I am hesitant to remove my sticks and tilt until I get advice from someone who has knowledge on these things!!

Any help out there?? Also are there any suppliers of the attachment bolts etc?? Thanks....I'm new to the zone so hope this all works.

Did not think they made a hard top for 80" used to have one on my 86"
Fixings to tub are same as later versions do a web search for smithies landrover will bring up NZ website with manuals etc in pdf format.

If the hard top came off a 1953 series one then presumably it is an 80" . As yours is an 86" there should be 6" difference in the length of the sides as the extra length was added to the load bed . Therefore if it is an 80" hardtop it won't fit your 86" .

Hard tops were available for the 80" model , but they are not that common these days . You could buy it cheap and flog it on for a bit of a profit . Half decent 86"/88" hard tops should fetch about £150.00 .

As for fixings , I just used 8mm threaded bar and big washers on mine . If you insist on having the correct fittings you need to scour Ebay or join the Land Rover Series One Club Forum and post a wanted ad there (and join the club while you are at it) . Someone will have some . You should also be able to get the correct hardtop for your 86" if the one you have found proves to be unsuitable .

Thanks for this reply ...very helpful....the sides are same length as my load bed....so I will double check what it came off!!! Also very helpful re the fitting parts....my Landy is all original unless unavoidable replacements, so not too worried about original connections!!

When you say found do you mean found one to potentially buy or have already bought? If you have it or or have easy access to it, surely it is only a few minutes to remove the tilt and frame so you could just try it for size?

Thanks for comments....yes....I was too lazy to experiment!!!....I have bought now it as it IS from an 86" not an 80" as I thought,....and now I have to just get bolts and fit. There is no flap type door for rear so I will have to keep keep hunting!!
