Hi Landy zone,

I have recently bought a 2000 discovery 2. I've had to fix one or two simple things (e.g. Clean sunroof seals, fix rear seat that was stuck) but now I have come to something which seems more difficult.

My transfer box seems to be seized up. I can move from High to neutral and back again but it really doesn't want to go into Low. Does anyone have advice on what to do with it? I'm expecting that it is just seized up through lack of use.

Any ideas are welcome.

I haven't been too forceful with it yet as I don't want to break anything. Maybe I'll try being firmer with it.

Removing the transfer tunnel and everything looks quite difficult.

Hi IC, in a manual gearbox car, with the engine running and at standstill, dip the clutch and with a firm but gentle manner move the tranny box lever forward, through neutral and into low.

If you encounter difficulty, select first gear with the main 'box before trying to select low. If encountering difficulty, gently raise the clutch pedal slightly to encourage the low box selection.

If it's not been used much it'll need using a lot - back and forth - to free it off.

Good luck

Dave

Thanks Dave.

I did exactly what you said and it worked like a charm. Thank you very much for that.

BlĂ´ody hell !!!!!

I'm delighted for you mate.

Now all you need to do is start at the front and work your way back - changing all the fluids and filters and various other maintenance tasks to ensure she runs really well.

If it's reluctant it will often go in if you try it with the car rolling at walking speed. Makes a bit of a crunch though!
