Just a quickie boys 200tdi the sediment filter in front of the back axel, the bleed screw it’s very tight will it take a bit of wellie, I don’t want to go at bull headed as I haven’t got a replacement unit and will be stuck until I can replace it
 
do you mean the drain on the bottom.... ive not touched mine but apparrently they snap off...advice seems to be to undo the central bolt on top to remove he bowl completely . clean and replace.
 
i would by pass it ,its not necessary you have a drain point on filter ,eventually been aluminum bolted to steel chassis under the car it will leak air into fuel line, there often never checked and can be a problem after unless like new which most arent if your worried about water drain bottom of filter into clear glass container and check fuel water will seperate when container stood a few minuets , sedimentor is just hollow filter case a reservoir to hold water
 
Fair enough guys I’ll leave well alone, I replaced fuel filter in engine bay and all appeared ok the sedimenter was an afterthought. Thanks for your help
 
As said above - Don't touch the plastic drain tap :eek: - they snap.

Undo the bolt at the top, in the centre of the filter head, it goes down through the sedimenter and tightens into the drain bowl, sandwiching the sedimenter between the two.

The seals are the same as those supplied with a CAV 296 filter - it's cheaper to buy a cheapo pattern 296 Diesel Filter and use the seals from that, than to buy just the seals from Land Rover (no surprise there then :rolleyes: )


It's not just a hollow filter case - it's a SEDIMENTER - which is an inverted cone, which forces heavier crap (including water) to SEDIMENT out of the lighter Diesel fuel.

Don't bypass it, it's there for a reason - when you open it up and see the gunk and ****e that it's captured, you'll understand why it's there - AND NEEDED!!!

As for leaking air into the fuel line :confused: - so will any component of the fuel system, if left un-maintained and neglected :mad:

As paul mc says, 11mm nut on top in centre, then give it a tap and it'll come free. If i have one bit of advice, crack it off into a plastic bag, when it comes off all the diesel inside will run down your arm and also splash in your eyes! Been there done that!
 
dont by pass it ,how many other landies or cars have them, you have a filter which is enough on td5 takes years to fill a sedimentor with crap ,unless thats what your putting regular in which case it wont help
 
Point taken guys no I won't do away with, as you say it's there for a reason, thanks for imfo on how to remove it
