Fine

However you wont find me driving about in a car with battery cables that are likely to short
Did I say my battery cables are about to short?
No, but having been a passenger in a van that the starter motor not cables, shorted and no one having a spanner to disconnect the battery,it burnt to a crisp.
So if while your un bolting the seats there's a short on a none ignition switched circuit and you've no isolater fitted, the car is toast,
Also you needn't worry about traveling in my vehicles, as I wouldn't have you in them,
Now bore off

As for jump starting etc fit some anderson connectors, >£20 problem solved.

I'm looking to do something similar....Sparco seats that don't allow easy access to the battery so am looking at Anderson connectors. Read that 350amp as a minimum are what's needed, sound about right ?

When I was looking into it 175amp connectors are apparently fine, just got to use proper battery cable to connect.

Which smart car are they out of? The main thing putting me off rx8 seats is the bolster. I bought some scooby seats a while ago and whilst they were really comfy getting in and out was nigh on impossible

out of a fourtwo, although fourfour seats fit too.

I fitted citroen BX seats in my 90, very comfortable and cheap and even better the squab is separate so gives easy access to battery box, admit they will all be old now but you might find a good pair.
Ever since I had a non-switched short in a volvo 245 some years ago I have always fitted a quality battery isolator just in case. But there are more benefits, if I want to do some minor electrical work I can just isolate the battery and get on with it, If I am parked up in an out of the way place and away from the vehicle for a long time - as in going fishing - it gives another level of security.

I went round and round with the seat choices thing and just ended up with an Exmoor re-trim kit and new foams and also heaters and it works fine. Lots of these other options just seemed too compromised...knees hitting steering wheels, tricky getting in and out over bolsters, bolsters hitting door cards, mountings not really satisfactory, no under seat access etc etc. Plus for me with a CSW the fronts would not match the backs.

I did wonder however if mk1 MX5 seats might work as they are quite small and low like Defender seats...
