The MoT requires a seat belts textile to be free from:

a. any cut which causes the fibres to separate.

b. fluffing or fraying sufficient to obstruct correct operation of the belt or which has clearly weakened the webbing.

So... if you melt the frayed / fluffed / cut portion of belt with a hot implement so that it no longer is frayed / fluffed and without separating fibres - does it pass inspection, or is that wishfull thinking? :D

If, while reading this, you think....hmmmmmm 'I happen to have a NS rear seat belt reel from a '97 disco 1, that I really don't need any more and would be willing to flog for a few quid'.... Don't hesitate to shout out

Sorry, perhaps I should have explained..... That's what someone has already done:doh: I was just wondering why; so I read the rules on MoT for seat belts and it seems to slip between them ....

However, I was wondering whether anyone else has ever interpreted the rules that way, or if the last MoT tester is a complete nob.

the tester may not have checked the belt correctly! heating the belt will waken it any cuts or nicks or damage will be a fail at a vosa station

Belts should be changed after any crash anyway even small ones. They work by breaking strands to cushion the blow so if it has been used before, the next time you need it you might find yourself having to learn to fly very quickly as you go through the windscreen.

nah its the back seat.......the person in the front will stop the person coming through from the back it will likely crush them though
