Hello all,

I am looking for suggestions of gearbox/transfer case specialist mechanics in the southern half of the country (GB).
I have an issue(s) that I have not been able to identify that sit somewhere with my gearbox, transfer case, and roamer drive, and I need to help to identify and fix or replace. (models: R380, LT230, Roamer Drive DS)

My local mechanic is great and helps when something exceeds my driveway-repair ability, but they are more of a patch-it-&-get-it-back-on-the-road kind of shop. This time I could really use someone who I know can do the job right the first time.

I have spoken to David at Ashcroft and he is looking into it as well, but just haven't heard back yet.

Thank you in advance for anyone you can suggest who will be knowledgeable, and get the details right the first go round.

Cheers,

You do not say which model gearbox you have, could help.
R Whitehouse and son are specialist in LT77 box's.

Thank you, tottot. Good point. I will edit the original for anyone else who runs across this.
It is the r380/lt230 model.
Cheers,

Hi RustyDef,

There is a loud (louder than the engine+road noise on the motorway) whine coming from the gearbox/TxCase. The whine is rpm dependent and is present in all gears but loudest in 5th. Additionally, the engagement of the roamerdrive increases this whine (assumed from increased load). The whine can have an oscillating sound on bumpy roads (assumed from gear mesh going in and out). Last, when I run the transfer in neutral and just through the gears, there is also a 'growl' similar to a bearing, but not super loud yet on that.
The vehicle has 330,000kms/205,000 on the clock, the engine and gearbox are original, but I had the transfer case rebuilt at around 230,000kms.
