My sunroof on the Freelander has never worked since I bought it. I keep getting wet in the corners of the roof above the front pillar next to the windscreen. I originally thought it was because I had no plugs or bolts in the roof rack holes so sealed them up but the damp is back so guess its was the sunroof as well.

So to seal it permanently shut do I just coat the outside with silican sealant or is there another way?

Have you checked for blocked sunroof drain holes ;)

If the glass is inoperable, remove it and have a check around :)

Where are the drain holes on it?

Also after looking at the outside seal its in bad shape so have sealed the roof with gaffa tape until I get dryer weather to have a proper look but don't even think the electrics to the roof work since nothing happened when you push the button.

To get to the drain holes you need to remove the glass

Remove the narrow plastic side panels either side of the sunroof (sat in the car looking up) remove the torx screws and off it comes.

You can then look for and check the front drain holes .. have search if still unsure :)

Check the fuse it might of been removed to stop it working I managed to move mine bit by bit with a bit of help and using the switch and it sealed I've just got to take the fuse out to stop myself from forgeting and trying to open it!!

:frusty:
Well thought I had solved the leaking sun roof issue when I taped it all up from the outside but haven't used the car in a week and now both front seats are soaking wet. Where can the water be coming from since the sunroof has gaffa tape sealing it all around on the outside. The holes the roof bars bolt into are sealed yet water is still getting in the sun roof?

more than likely that the frame that the glass is bonded to has rotted away, if you remove the glass as described before then you can see it and maybe clean up the metal and give it a lick of paint then try removing the seal and coating it in vaseline and replace it all hopefully this will help to stop it leaking :)

well if you have taped it up then it will not be getting in there did you seal those bolt holes for the roof bars ,but even if you do not seal the sunroof up any excess water should go down the drain hole's

We had water dripping out of our interior light yesterday, my sunroof tilts but doesn't slide so i'd pulled the fuse as well. I tried lifting it a smidge yesterday to see if it sealed better,I will try the vaseline trick as well. Got to replace my light as it's water damaged now

There is a fair amount of rust around the underside of the sunroof frame but Thinking I need to get some proper bolts for the roof bar hole rather than just trying to tape them over. I'll see if I can get it open on Saturday if it stops raining and get a proper look.

ANYONE know what size the roof bar bolts are???

Well after sealing the roof shut again with better tape it still leaked so took some of the plastic trim off to find the leak and looks like the sun roof is FUBAR.

They all go like that , Mine is not as bad but still gets wet inside .
Only real option is new sunroof panel @ £180 :(

Question please did the above ever get resolved, if not do we know how to best remedy this other than purchasing a new sunroof panel, also do we have any links for a new panel I have just noticed mine is staring to rust in the corners, so before it get to bad would like to solve it if possible cheers Arctic2

I got a reply from the Famous Four yesterday and they can supply so I am waiting on confirmation, once confirmed i will most likely purchase and fit new sunroof frame with glass bonded into it hoping it will solve the small leak before it gets any worse, will keep those interested informed cheers Arctic2

Hi Sorry I have been busy but I can report that I purchased a new sunroof panel and have fitted it as up now no leaks but I still need to investigate the drain holes in each corner to make sure the water is going to get way when we have the flash down pours of rain, cheers Arctic2
