Hi all.
Bought a freelander 01 plate a month ago...had gasket done etc.
Took the cap off today after a short run...4 mile....and there was a little white scum...couple of water droplets....in the cap.....hardly anything
Is this normal...no coolant loss at all.
Condensation ??
I seem to remember my old escort xr3 had the same and went on and on
Is this normal ?
Should I worry.
I'm no mechanic. Lol

If the HG has been done and it's not using coolant? It's entirely likely that there is some residual water in the crank case. It will work it's way out in time. Just check the coolant weekly.

its likely to get a bit of oily scum in the coolant bottle as well, good idea to remove reservoir and clean with degreaser, rinse thoroughly and replace, then you know things are good whilst the coolant stays clean.

Thanks guys....it's been on my mind.
Coolant levels haven't moved since I've had it....and dip stick clear.
So I ll monitor it anyways.
Thanks again for the reassurance and advice guys
Jerry

if its the rover 1.8 kseries engine there are renound for condasation if the car has only done short journeys !!

as long as its only in the top ie round oil cap if really worried take the rocker cover off ,its only around 10 bolts ,have a look if its only condasition the gunk will not be in there only round oil cap

and of course check dip stick if thats gunked too i would be asking the garage that did the job questions ,ie did they scim head, where inners held in postion ,did they fit the new mlhg ?
