 driving along in my series 2/3 it suddenly started making a noise like whirling wire rope around.this developed into a screming noise the faster i got.i've had crooks check it over (bearings,f.w.hs etc) but to no avail.sometimes if i go over a rut or bump in the road it can stop the noise.the noise also dissapears altogether on some journies.any ideas would be gratefully accepted.thanks:D

Now I can read it :D

no idea :D

There can be 1001 things that will cause that.
You need to note down the things that effect it.
Ie does it happen when stoped and the engine is reved up?
Does it change when breaking or cornering?
What happens under engine breaking ?

But from what you said i would be looking at the drivechain Gearbox /transfer box, deive shafts and diffs.

Fan belt...............I know it sounds daft but I had it, sounded like a stuck pig. Unable to pin the fault down untill the belt snapped....new belt and no noise ever since......

erm have you got an overdrive fitted.i had one once that screamed all the time it was engaged.got used to it though lol.
